Project “Polak”

The project has been carried out in cooperation with the University of Warsaw and the University in Wuppertal in Germany. The project is coordinated by dr hab. Magdalena Latkowska on the Polish side, and by dr Bruno Arich-Gerz on the German side. The project also involves the students from the above mentioned universities, who help to attain the objectives and goals. The aim of this project is to reconstruct the biography of Edmund Polak, a former concentration camp prisoner, who engaged in various artistic activities (during his imprisonment, he wrote a lot of literary works about the reality of the camp). After the liberation, he worked as a journalist in Express Wieczorny. The work, which was an inspiration to give a closer consideration to his person, is entitled Tunel. It is an imitation of the tunnel made of paper and provided with pictures and texts illustrating terror, fear and everyday Mittelbau-Dora camp life. Furthermore, in order to summarise the project, the Polish students with their supervisors will take part in the workshops in Germany for four days (from 20th to 24th June 2016), where they will translate selected works of Edmund Polak together with German students and finally collect them with a detailed description of his biography to a bilingual German-Polish publication.
